I believe our immigration laws should be enforced. I also believe, however, that it should far easier for people who want to legally come here to do so. It should not take someone who truly wants to become an American half a dozen or more years and many thousands of dollars to become one.
In the short term, our borders need to be protected. The idea of building a wall seems offensive. Instead, we should focus on having our own national guard units and other military defending OUR borders instead of the borders of other nations. Passage of The FairTax Act would ensure that illegal immigrants residing here would pay taxes just like the rest of us.
The airlines should also work to create a private system, acceptable to the U.S. Government, for frequent travelers to our country to have some form of optional and voluntary “pre-approved” passenger ID card for those who desire to avoid the hassle of airport security.
We also should seriously consider eliminating “birthright citizenship” which became an unintended consequence of the 14th Amendment. I would join Rep. Ron Paul of Texas in supporting his legislative efforts to end this practice.
