Most people don’t realize that the United States did not have an Income Tax until 1913. In fact, it took an amendment to the Constitution (the 16th) to even make such a tax legal. Public outcry against automatic withholding ended that practice in 1917 until it was brought back during World War II.
The government raids our paychecks every payday before we ever get to see the money. Starting with just 3 to 6% on the very wealthy in 1913, the Income Tax has expanded to rates of 10%, 15%, 25%, 33% and 35% and occupies 66,000 pages of unknowable code, exemptions, loopholes and tyranny. We haven’t even touched on the over 15% that is taken for Social Security and Medicare (split between employee and employer).
While ending the Income Tax and putting retirement savings back in the hands of the people would be the ultimate goal, immediately upon taking office I will contact Rep. John Linder (R) of Georgia and become the third sitting congressperson from Indiana to co-sponsor HR 25, The FairTax Act. The only tax proposal that completely de-taxes the poor and puts American exports on a more even playing field with goods made overseas. Visit http://www.fairtax.org for more details or read “The FairTax Book” by Neal Boortz.

One Republican started being critical of me for support of The FairTax, keep in mind that your own Mike Pence and Dan Burton are co-signers, as was Rep. Sodrel before losing to Baron Hill.
There are around 69 supporters on the bill in Congress, including at least one Democrat at last count (there were 4 or 5 Democrats before Pelosi threatened them and made them get off the bill so they could use it in political attack ads).
